Originating from Japan, Aikido is a martial art with an approach that is different from that of many others. Its main characteristic is that it excludes any form of competition. Aikido teaches those practising it the need to respect one other, and therefore the need to dominate through sheer strength becomes irrelevant.

On the tatami, the student learns what discipline, perseverance and the capacity to surpass oneself, are about . The teacher adapts his teaching and exercises according to the age and level of his students.
